Finished: My Spring Spiral Skirt!

Spiral Skirt: Front View (showing waistband)

After my last hair-pulling maternity garment I needed a quick win to boost my confidence before diving into mini-wardrobe muslin-ing. Plus I am pantless and in desperate need of spring bottoms. So when Cartoonist Baby woke me up early this morning with a few well-placed kicks in the ribs, I turned to the quickest, easiest skirt pattern in my stash, Kwik Sew 3513.

This thing literally has four seams (and a hem). It's just an elastic-free roll-waist rectangular yoke with a skirt attached and optional flounce. Instant sewing gratification! Last time I made View C in a solid purple rayon-lycra terry with a flounce and rolled hem:

But since I was working with a large print this time I eliminated the flounce and did a twin-needle hem.

The fabric is a super-soft poly-lycra knit with excellent stretch and recovery I got for $3/yard at Sew-Fisticated Discount Fabrics in Massachusetts last week. Total cost... $5?

I am in skirt love. It's all very Tim Burton, don't you think?

Speaking of which, Masheka and I are off to see "Alice in Wonderland" in iMax! Have a lovely weekend!

  3. Thanks! Beetlejuice is actually my favorite Tim Burton movie, I just didn't have time to grab a spiral image from it before running off to Alice in Wonderland!

  4. I love the skirt, and I love the how the green, yellow and red all look so great together! Also, it's cool to see glimpses of how your place is decorated. It looks pretty colorful... Maybe you could come to my house and convince my husband that we can paint a wall any other color than beige!

I'd love to hear from you! But no ads please--I'll just have to delete them.
