Well, someday mine will come back! But it's totally possible to make a maternity shirtdress, just move up the seam to an empire position--I just couldn't fine any nice examples for this inspiration set!
Oh, I love that one on the model on the right. Such a pretty shade of blue, enhanced by the fabric's sheen. And covered buttons! Gotta love shirtwaists. (And so glad someone agrees with me about the sometimes-wonky Project Runway judging!)
I have yet to tackle a buttonhole but I have bought that pattern (the Ceylon dress) and am very excited to make it post-preggo! I think I have only three shirtwaist patterns, one of which is a 1950s maternity shirtwaist, but plan to look for more.
Dreaming about waists again are we?

ReplyDeleteI love them, too! You have some really pretty ones there... What is your favorite shirtwaist dress pattern?

ReplyDeleteLove shirtwaists, especially the 1950s (and 50s revival) rockabilly styles. So classic and adorable!
ReplyDeleteNot to be the proverbial killjoy, but these always make me think of house dresses. Kind of "Leave it to Beaver" drab -- even in shantung.
ReplyDeleteAnd even in polka dots? You blaspheme! I just love buttons on a dress, I guess--especially covered ones.
ReplyDeleteI really like the shirtdress from colette patterns but 16 button holes! Don't know if I can go there
