Now, I don't square dance. And although this pattern is in my high bust measurement, I can't think of a single upcoming occasion in my life meriting a puff-sleeved dirndl dress with giant tiers and a not-particularly-low neckline. It's certainly not easy-access nursing wear.
But these girls are having so much fun it almost seems a shame to destash their little pattern party. After all--it's "magic to make!"
(Like yesterday's fabulous 1940s pattern, acquired via fuzzily photographed eBay lot for a pittance).
By the way, when I first got this, I somehow misread the hand-written note on the front as "irresistible." But I think it actually says "4 yards" + something indecipherable.
Another fun pattern!
ReplyDeleteYou could make just the skirt with an elastic waistband and wear it right away. So cute.
Who stole these girls' tambourines? That was most unkind of them! :)
ReplyDeleteI long too for non-nursing clothes. Someday...then I'll probably have another one.

It does look like the writing says "irresistable"!
ReplyDeleteHee. Last spring I saw a womanwearing a pearl gray version of the black dress, and with a few small details added, the dress looked inexplicably... medieval chic, in a really good way. I was so flabbergasted that I eBayed a modern Simplicity pattern.
ReplyDeleteAlas, I have no reason in life to look like someone's wandering fairy godmother, so the pattern sits.
Square dancing indeed. Love it!! I'm obsessed with the Butterick girls, they always look like they're such having fun. I'd be interested to know if they were modeled on real women. Also note there are never any blonde women on the Butterick patterns, well not on the ones I own (of which there are many), only brunette & redheads. Very interesting....
ReplyDeleteThe sleeveless version is actually really cool!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Some of the older Butterick patterns have the best descriptions. Looks like these girls had a whiff of whatever made the pattern "magic"! (And aren't eBay pattern lots the best?)
