Giveaway Option #1: Du Barry 5415 vintage coat or topper pattern, 1942
Sew Grateful week is in full swing over at My Happy Sewing Place, AND I just hit over 150 blog followers, so I'm super excited to host my first ever Polka Dot Overload giveaway!
In typical Mikhaela fashion I could not pick just one pattern to give away--and since I'm doing a vintage pattern giveaway, I wanted to have a range of bust size options. So here are a variety of patterns I've collected that aren't quite moi, but deserve a loving sewing home.
So, the rules:
- To qualify for the giveaway, please leave a comment here by Sunday Feb. 12, midnight EST telling me which pattern is your favorite, and either (a) what type of fabric you would make it with (color? material? etc.) or (b) what occasion you would wear it for. Please don't enter just to resell on Etsy or eBay--obviously I have no way to check that, but I would just love to think you'll actually sew with one of these!
- There will be one giveaway winner. (The rest of these lots will go on eBay, as I don't have time these days for Etsy).
- Some of these are lots--if you win the giveaway and pick one of them, you get the whole lot!
- Out of qualifying answers, I will pick a random winner.
- Please make sure to include your email address or other contact info when you post your comment (it should be visible to me only, I think).
- I'll ship to anyone, anywhere, but please give me a few weeks of leeway before you start worrying about your pattern(s)--things are a big squeezed over here timewise!
- Due to the sheer number of patterns involved here, I did not have time to check to make sure all pattern pieces are present for all patterns. If you choose a lot, hopefully most of them will be intact! If you choose a single pattern, I'll check the pieces before I send--if any key ones are missing, I can give you backup options.
And the options (I have links to back views or more details on the Vintage Pattern Wikia for some of these):
- Vintage Du Barry 5415 coat or topper pattern, 1942, size 16, bust size 34 (photo above). Love those Du Barry crayon colored illustrations!
- Vintage Simplicity 3431 dress with full skirt, early 1960s, size 16, bust size 36. Check out the sheer sleeves in the main view (and here's the back view):
- Lot of three adorable vintage smock-style maternity dress, top and skirt patterns, one from the 1950s and the others from the 1960s. Bust sizes 32 or 34. (Here's more info on Butterick 7395):
- Lot of six vintage patterns from the 1960s or 1970, in bust sizes 37-40. I really wish these were closer to my high bust size, especially Simplicity 3722 (double bows!). And isn't Style 2876 (love that bodice seaming) very Star Wars--whereas Butterick 6329 is a bit more Star Trek? Also includes a half-size sloper pattern...
- Lot of six vintage patterns from the 1960s or 70s, in bust sizes 32-34. Yes, I know there are seven pictured... but then I realized I just LOVE everything about Simplicity 6577 (the orange/plaid combo! eek!) and it's only one size too small in the waist/hips. So (sew?) sorry!
- Lot of two vintage 1960s mail-order dress patterns (see detailed blog post about this collection "A Life in Mail Order Patterns") in bust sizes 34 and 35, Patt-O-Rama 8356 and Mail Order 8359.
- Lot of five vintage 1970s and 1980s mail-order dress and separates patterns from same collection (see detailed blog post about this collection "A Life in Mail Order Patterns") in bust sizes 39-42, including Mail Order 4785, Mail Order 8250 and Mail Order 9441 (my favorite! Love the polka dot bow-neck dress!).
Phew! That's it, folks. Good luck to all of you, and while I don't want to put on any pressure, I would just be incredibly delighted if the winner eventually made up their winning pattern ... maybe in time for next year's Sew Grateful week?
P.S. Later this week, I'm also planning to do a Sew Grateful tribute to my grandmother Melba, who taught me to sew (and left me her beloved serger and money for a sewing machine). I'm also hoping to do a project post about my Sew Grateful colorblocked skirt from a pattern she left me--if my fabric arrives in time.
I'd make Patt-O-Rama 8356 in a light blue wool crepe for spring as officewear.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contest! :)
How lovely of you , and congrats on 150 followers! As much as I love the look of Simplicity 3431 dress with full skirt,I am now building a 40s wardrobe, and spending this year in 1942 (in my mind and blog at least), so I would love the 1942 coat (Du Barry 5415). I would make it in cherry red - perhaps a light wool crepe or blend, something not too heavy as even winter here is not too cold.
ReplyDelete8356 is an absolute beauty!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is awesome! I love Mail Order 8250, especially the sleeveless version! I'd make it up in a soft bamboo jersey (without the zip!) for PJs, and possibly a nice linen (again, without that centre front zip) for any warm and sunny days that we might get this year. That the set is more my size range is an absolute bonus.
ReplyDeletekmp8 at sfu dot ca
Loving that Du Barry one! I reckon the topper would look brilliant in a muted tweed, worn with a pencil skirt and heels and a fur scarf for winter. Yum!
ReplyDeleteAlso, congrats on the 150 followers - very exciting! :-)
Oh, very difficult decision. I wish I could choose between 3722, 5591 and 2876 and would like to wear them in a blue woolcrepe to my daughters confirmation.
ReplyDeleteMikhaela, you are a girl after my own (sewing) heart. I am loving lot 1 -maternity wear.
ReplyDeleteI want to be armed with cute dresses the next time I get a baby. especially Butterick 3825 n 4857. I think they would look lovely color blocked for the bodice and bottom part.
cutekipepeo(at)gmail(dot)com
ah! i love them all!
ReplyDeletei'd go for the #2 vintage simplicity. would love to make it up to have to wear to all those military functions i find myself at with the husband...he's getting tired of me just throwing on heels with my jeans and calling it "dressed up."
brooke.l.blackman(at)gmail(dot)com
Ooo eee! What a fabulous giveaway! I absolutely love Simplicity 3431 and the first vintage pattern lot (B37-40). Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHello and thank you for your generosity. I would like to enter the contest for the lot od 2 mail order patterns: they are in my size! I especially like the Pat O Rama one and I think it would make a fantastic summer dress in pale pink linen with white edges.
ReplyDeleteptessari72@hotmail.com
No holding back for you! I love the Simplicity 8693, with the dropped pleated skirt. It looks exactly like something worn in Thoroughly Modern Milly (supposedly set in the 1920s, but filmed in the 1960s so the clothing choices were a little skewed I think). I'd probably make it a light weight wool and dance around my apartment all day!
ReplyDeleteps - doesn't look like there is an option to leave an email address, but if you go to my blog it's listed in the top right sidebar.
Thanks for a great giveaway!
How fun! I would choose Patt-O-Rama 8356. I'm terrible at picking fabrics, so it would probably take me months and lots of asking of opinion before I managed it! I would wear it on a fancy dinner out with my DH.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, what a gracious giveaway! As I found out just before Christmas that I'm expecting bundle #3, I could sure use some patterns that could translate to maternity wear. That vintage Butterick 3832 would be perfect! I'm in love with the dress version and in something with a bit of stretch, it would be exactly what I need to get a jump on my already growing mid-section! :)
ReplyDeleteI love 5591 and the star trek one next to it. I'd make 5591 in a some nice colored wool. It looks like such a nice work dress that is a little sleek and sexy too. It makes me think of Joan from Mad Men.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome giveaway!
alexaDOTsheltonATgmail.com
Simplicity 3431 reminds me of the dress Maria wore when she danced in the moonlight with Capt. Von Trapp. I'd do up Simplicity 5591 in a nice tropical wool - I'd love to find a bright orange.
ReplyDeleteI'm just torn between the Joan-to-Betty versatility of Simplicity 3722 (done up in a red stretch bengaline or blue plaid wool crepe, respectively), or the Trekky Tunic of Butterick 6329 (in a red wool with black color banding in support of Red Shirts everywhere).
ReplyDeleteThis is a such a wonderful giveaway!
M: What an awesome giveaway. I love so many of these patterns but I have to stop accumulating them! I've already bought 10 patterns this month?! So I thank you for your great blog and generosity and look forward to seeing who will win!
ReplyDeletei love your choose-your-own-adventure giveaway!
ReplyDeleteif i won (and it would be pretty funny if our first out of blog contact was after i moved from NY to LA), i'd choose door number 6. i love that button up! maybe in a red wool, and the cinched dress in a stiff taffeta that would make delicious whispery sounds every time i moved.
but of course all that would be dependent on the current sale at le joanns.
Vintage Simplicity 3431 please!
ReplyDeleteI have a thing for sleeve drama, so I am going for Simplicity 3431!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
Thank you all for entering and for the lovely comments! Please keep in mind that to qualify for the giveaway it's not enough to just indicate which pattern you'd like--please also let me know either what type of fabric you'd plan to make it in, for what occasion you might wear it, or both!
ReplyDeleteHoly jeez! Lot 4 just stole my heart! I want to make them ALL
ReplyDeleteThanks! Amy
amym710[at] gmail [dot] com
Love lot #4! I'd make 5591 in a variety of colours to wear to work, probably starting with a grey wool.
ReplyDelete#2 is great! I would wear it for a day of wine tasting with friends :)
ReplyDeleteI love #4, the 6-piece lot. I would make a dress for church. I, too, love the seaming.
ReplyDeleterebekahricker (at) yahoo (dot) com
ooh, lot number 4 please. Great selection in my size. I'd like to make the nightdress in the bottom right hand corner in a silk/cotton mix. Lace edged of course. I have such a weakness for lingerie patterns, especially vintage ones. I like the pale blue ribbon accent they've used on the cover too.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is an awesome giveaway for vintage pattern lovers (like me, though I have yet so sew one up). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with #6, the two '60s dress patterns. A-dorable. They'd both be great to wear to work and I like that they both offer options for using contrasting fabrics/notions. :)
Oh wow! What Choice? I'd have to go with the DuBarry 1940's Coat/Topper. I already have a dark green dress made from suiting fabric planned which would benefit a matching topper! The occasion? It's for a vintage racing car rally!
ReplyDeleteOh my god, there are too many choices, but I have to say, I really adore Lot of six vintage patterns from the 1960s or 1970, in bust sizes 37-40, and it would require the least amount of grading on my part. So that's what I would like to score, if scoring becomes possible. Thank you for this insanely generous giveaway!

I think the Butterick 6329 from lot 4 would be the one I'd want to sew up first - cough those are the only patterns that would fit me (actually I'd picture doing the housedress from the torn package first, my husband would just love coming home seeing me in housedresses every day I'm sure ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd make the dress first, and really, I'd just use it as an everyday dress, all I really have are special occasion dresses and I've wanted to make some more casual ones to wear around by next spring.
Cough could I make by the Sew Grateful week next year? I'd sure hope so, but I did only pick my spring palette for this years yesterday, so you can see what a procrastinator I am! Luckily I have a beige on the palette so I think that dress wouldn't overwhelm me in such a neutral if I slipped it into this years lineup!
Oh my! I'm TERRIBLE at making decisions! I'll cast my lot for #2 Simplicity 3431!

Oh I love prize 7, pussy bow and dress combination is great, I'd sew with a nice poka dot material and keep the shrit part white, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteooh, so wonderful! i'd make the dubarry 40s coat, maybe in a brown tweed? i think i love the long and short lengths equally, though!
ReplyDeleteI would like to win Lot of two vintage 1960s mail-order dress patterns, the left dress looks perfect! I would make it with cotton and maybe some light color?
ReplyDeletewow thats a fab giveaway. Im loving lot 6 but would be happy with any. I love colour and print so my fabric choices are always very colourful, very typically Brazilian. wouldn't be a crazy mixture of vintage and brazilian prints
ReplyDeleteAhh so much awesome! I think I like the patterns in #6 best. I'd love to use both to make dresses to wear to work. I've fudged "secretary" blouses before, it'd be nice to have the pattern for one finally! And that double-breasted detail on the first dress? Devine.
ReplyDeleteI'd like the mail-order patterns in lot 6... I'd make the full skirted version in a bright cotton, and the jumper in a jewel toned wool...
ReplyDeleteI am loving lot number 5 the most, especially the green (and white) dresses with the pleated skirt, that is so me. I would make it up in a lightweight plaid wool for winter so I could wear it to work next season with my favourite pair of boots :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to have Simplicity 3431. I would make up view 3 for a nice summer dress this year.

I'd love Lot 6 - The two mail-order patterns! I'd like to make the dress on the left in a cotton plaid like it's shown in the little pic on the bottom, and I can totally see a short sleeve blouse and tweedy jumper out of the pattern on the right!
ReplyDeletewow what a wonderful giveaway :) I have been looking for something like the Pat-o-rama 8356. I would probably do it in a black and white Hound-sooth.Ahhh now I really want it :).
ReplyDelete~ * ♥ * ~
ReplyDeleteAhh, the vintage Du Barry 5415 is a siren call to me ~ not only is it the perfect size, but I positively adore the style. I would make that coat from a nice wool - possibly plaid {gotta love me some stripes} and I would wear it everywhere in winter! I don't have any vintage coats yet, so I would love to add this to my wardrobe...
In fact, if that pattern goes up on eBay please let me know ~ I am pining for it soooo badly. :D

Great giveaway! I think I would choose option #6. Pattern 8356 is beautiful. Thanks for the chance to win!!
ReplyDeleteI would like, if i win of course, to have the Lot n°5. I like the three ones at the right of the picture and I'm searching some kind of tunic A line shaped, that i want to sew for my aunt in blue linen/viscose fabric (that i bought last week for a ridiculous price 5 euros for 3 meters!), my pattern collection is tiny and of course any of the pattern i got was what i wanted for her. The simplicity 7994 would be great for the 70's and India inspired style i'm searching to do for her since 2/3 months, because she loves Asia and had traveled there many times!
ReplyDeleteWell as it's a lot it gives plenty of inspiration!! The one at the top right with the buttons is turning on my inspiration.
Ooooh wow! So overwhelming! I think I'd go for the 60's mail-order patterns. I love the side-button dress, and would totally make it just to wear to work whenever I could. And the other pattern just would make me feel so grown up and *professional*!
ReplyDeleteYes, this is overwhelming. in a good way, of course :) The Simplicity 3722 caught my eye, though!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving Simplicity 3722, I love the neckline! Probably in a nice cotton for every day in a satin for an evening where? Either way, I'd definitely go for group 4.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
jordann.m.hall@gmail.com
Lot six, please. It's actually my mom's size, but I've had so much fun sewing for her this year (I have a Jackie O dress, a French-style jacket, and a cape in the works) that I'd love a few more patterns in her size. I imagine she'd wear them to church or out to lunch with her lady friends. As for fabric... Well... Maybe a cute cotton for 8356 and a tweed for 8349?
ReplyDeleteIf I was to win I would love the chance to make up 8356 in lot 6 - ok its not my size but since I have to grade every pattern I ever buy up and down in a variety of places I am getting quite good at fitting. I was only small in the 50's/'60's but remember all the awesome dresses my mum used to wear and it would be so cool to have the opportunity to emulate her style.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win lot 4. And make the StarTrek looking dress in StarTrek colors just for fun!
ReplyDeleteLot 6 with those mail order patterns is just lovely!
ReplyDeleteI have a vintage sheet that's bright turquoise and some dark blue satin edging for contrast that would look lovely in 8356. And for 8349-I'm crazily looking at stripes but I should probably keep it simple with the uneven polka dot semi-thick fabric for the jumper and make the blouse multi-use in white...
"Patt-o-Rama" Dress is my favorite and I think that I would probably make a couple of them, but for the first I think a spring dress made out of a white and pink check would be wonderful and I would wear it just about anywhere and everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the lovely giveaway.
What a generous giveaway! I'd make the McCalls Pattern in the top right of lot number five - just look at the hair of the girl in red! I love sixties patterns and the simple lines of this really appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteI would make Patt-O-Rama 8356 in navy blue with white trim because I have the perfect navy patent leather heels to go with it!
ReplyDeleteallison.titman at gmail.com
Hello from Brazil! Thank you so much for this amazing giveaway... I loved the Simplicity 3722 pattern and the others in the packet... I have this wonderful polka dot fabric that would make a lovely dress... My email is cotton@gmail.com. Thanks again...
ReplyDeleteI really like Simplicity 8693! I find dropped waists flattering and this would look really lovely in white with little sailor stripes. I'm thinking of a MihoMiho sailor dress I've seen recently. The coat is pretty cute too.
ReplyDeleteWow, lotsa cute patterns! I'd love to enter for no. 2, the collar is so gorgeous! I love both the plaid and polka dot versions, and a striped version would be really cool, too. Or florals?! For a first version, I have the perfect navy&light blue polka dot cotton. :D I'd wear it as soon as the weather makes it feasible, maybe for a walk and picknick in the park. :) My email is on my blogger profile.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win lot 4 purely for Butterick 6329, The tunic would be great in green with black contrast, or I could indulge my love of the 70's to the full extent of orange dress with purple collar. With all my sewing at the moment I'm trying to make work suitable clothes so that's mainly were it will be worn.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for the giveaway! Lots of wonderful items to choose from and something for everyone. I love the Patt-O-Rama 8356 - the neckline and off-center buttons are sooo charming. I was thinking either a checkered patterned fabric (and I see they have a picture in the bottom left of the pattern) or I already have a beautiful teal blue cotton which would make this a lovely summer dress. If it ends up on Ebay I'll be buying it :o)
ReplyDeleteI am over the moon for the Pat-O-Rama 8356 and it's my size! The buttons are already in my stash, a cream button with a teal trim around the edges. I think the fabric would have to be a blush pink enzyme washed linen. I have been searching for the a pattern to match with it since it came home with me last summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting this giveaway!
Lot of six vintage patterns from the 1960s or 1970, in bust sizes 37-40 is my choice! I would make the dress Simplicity 3722 (right one) in a true 60's fabric that I herited from my grandmother. And I would wear it to a date with my hubby :-D
ReplyDeleteThank you for this lovely giveaway!!!
Ps my mailadress is sara_hoste@hotmail.com
Oh, my, I just love Simplicity 3431!
ReplyDeleteI adore those puff sleeves, and the polka dots, so I think I would have to combine a couple of views.
No wait . . . I see it in a crisp cotton toile with a contrasting tie and topped with a straw hat to keep the sun at bay – just perfect for a summer picnic. Oh, who am I kidding – I would just as soon wear it to the office or a day at the museum; I love dresses, even if everyone around me is wearing jeans and a t-shirt!
Lot 6, especially the asymmetrical one on the left. I'd love to make it out of a cotton lawn print with solid trim for summer occasions!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the Vintage Du Barry 5414, the topper view. I have a wonderful Pendleton wool plaid in purples and black from my last visit to the mill in Pendleton OR. I purchased a pink plaid topper on that same trip, very similar to this pattern that was a remake of the original 1949 Pendleton design.
ReplyDeletepakrkunderscore2000atyahoo.com
I would love Lot 4. So many fabulous dresses. I think I'd make Simplicity 3722 in a similar abstract floral fabric for my university grad!
ReplyDeleteand my contact info is nicolearitchie@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHello, & I'm so glad to find your blog.... you've got another follower now, brilliant initiative this sew grateful - I should have got my act together, but it came just as I posted a birthday giveaway - would have been too confusing! Anyway, Gosh, what a choice! I'd been dithering between (5) the bumper collection of the 60s/70s patterns & (2)the fabulous fullskirted dress, Simplicity 3431. I kind of thought that in lot (5) I was most drawn to the two patterns at the right hand side of the photo- the dress & the chinese style dress & trousers, but wouldn't want to take the other patterns and not make them up if someone else wanted them . So, a long way of saying this, I'd definitely make the Simplicity dress, the sleeveless version in some wild red or blue print with a contrast collar...it's dreamy!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI would like to have the Vintage Simplicity 3431. I find it to be a delightful pattern and I would make a skyblue or navy or both (can't decide so probably both) sundresses with this pattern.
Lot 4 for me please!
ReplyDeleteI'd probably make them out of wool and cotton and wear them to work!
Thanks for hosting!
I would love to make the Pat-O-Rama 8356 and wear it to my best friends wedding in the summer. Maybe in a nice silk dupioni?
ReplyDeleteOh, this is an awesome give-away! I love choice 5 the lot of vintage patterns. I saw one of them that would be great for a summer date night with my husband! Very exciting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
Would love simplicity 3431 and I would wear it for my birthday and make it in taffeta.
ReplyDeleteLovely patterns! Thanks for the giveaway. I love the Dubarry5415 vintage coat. I would love to practice my tailoring skills and make a classic tailored coat in grey wool. I would wear it daily until the weather gets too warm.
ReplyDeleteI love the button front dress in Lot #6 :) It would be really cute in royal blue cotton with white trim - very nautical! Thanks so much for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway! I would love to sew the 1th option - Vintage Du Barry 5415 coat or topper pattern, 1942, size 16. I would use a nice brown wool to match my new 40s skirt. Would be nice and warm for the cold evenings outdoors. (missBeta.knits@gmail.com) Thanks! :-)
