Tell me: is this skirt I made for my daughter's mermaid-themed birthday party last year office appropriate?
So last year I toyed with the idea of participating in Zoe's awesome annual me-made challenge, but quickly gave up once I did an inventory of the pitiful few options available. I've sewn and knit many items over the years... but most were maternity clothes or Halloween costumes, or are now too small or too big or too warm (I wear wool socks and sweaters all through the winter, but they aren't such a great fit for May weather in NYC).
Since then, due to long-term chronic illness issues for myself and my little girl, I haven't added a huge number of new me-mades... but I'd still like to give it a shot. I have a few UFOs that just need a little help to be wearable, and a long queue of simple things I'd like to sew once I'm all recovered from surgery and feel capable of actually sitting down at the sewing machine. Plus I have several pairs of me-made underthings that I will count for the challenge (but not actually photograph).
'I, Mikhaela Reid of Polka Dot Overload, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '13. I endeavour to wear at something handmade at least four times a week for the duration of May 2013.'
In all seriousness, I'll probably end up wearing my polka-dot ombré dress at least once a week:
And the Jalie scarf-collar top too (I have another that's almost finished, but the fabric is so sheer I'm afraid to wear it):
So prepare to be bored (or alternatively, AMAZED if I manage to add a number of new items).
Anyone else participating for the first time? Please tell me your list of actual wearables is as pathetic as mine...
ok! your post from last year had me lol! i signed up and my options are lighter than yours lol! i just made sure to pledge to wear only a couple of times a week and mostly i pledged to sew at least 30 min a day every day im off work which is a huge challenge for me. which means next year (hopefull) memademay will be all covered ;). hoe surgery goes well!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan! The surgery went well, it's just the recovery which is no fun. But I'm getting there!
DeleteGood for you! I wear the same stuff all the time myself, I don't think anyone notices once you are out of high school. It'll be fun!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the feeling of few options. I tallied up wearable me-made garments and am going to have to add-"refashioned"/"retailored" to my vow to be able to actually participate. It might be a little bit of a cop-out but hopefully it'll force me to identify things that need more retailoring.
ReplyDeleteI think refashions TOTALLY count... and it suits your wardrobe goals, too.
Deletebtw forgot to add that your polka dot dress is smashing and your top is lovely
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about signing up but fear my version of MMM'13 will involve jeans/tees and a handknit scarf or cardigan (I have two of each) every day.
ReplyDeleteWell... why not?! Do you have time to sew or knit anything new by May? That's the bit I worry about.
DeleteI love your polka dot ombre dress! I can see why you'd be wearing that every week. I've signed up for 4 days per week this time around too as I'm pregnant and working with a reduced maternity wardrobe. It's definitely a good way to show the gaps in your wardrobe and it's fun too (or should be!)
ReplyDeleteOooh, fun! Can't wait to see what you make.
